Hickory Wood
Hickory, is a species of deciduous timber and nut-producing trees. The leaves are composed of 3 to 17 leaflets; and most species turn bright yellow in autumn. The petalless male and female flowers are home in different clusters on the same tree.
The fruit is an egg-shaped nut enclosed in a fleshy husk that splits into four woody valves as it matures. The hickory tree produces large, sweet-tasting, edible nuts. It is also commercially cultivated for its light-colored wood. It is used in flooring, furniture, for tool handles, and sports equipment.
Hickory wood has been used for centuries for cooking and smoking meat and poultry. Restaurants throughout the southern states esteem this cooking wood for the flavor it adds to meats.
